Dr. Strangelove

Dr. Strangelove points fun at the fear of nuclear threat. When many Americans were worried about the possibility of Russia bombing the US, this movie emerged. It showed that if any country was going to drop the bomb first, it would be us. The use of comedy was just a way to get fearful Americans to watch and embrace the movie when it released.
In the scene where the scene where General Jack D. Ripper and Lionel Mandrake are locked inside of the office, Ripper makes his mission known. His ultra-patriotism leads him to want the US to drop the bomb first. He has a very competitive mindset and trusts no non-American.
This movie is effective in conveying the point that many American fears had made the US very irrational and competitive in beating the Russians to drop the bomb. There was even a campaign about trusting no man that was not American born.
The threat of one society towards another is relevant in Dr. Strangelove and Uglies. Both medium have government like structures that want to win by whatever means necessary. The apocalyptic threat for both would be another societies victory.
