World War Z: Jurgen Warmbrunn

So my group is working with Jurgen Warmbrunn. What is most interesting about Jurgen's story is his childhood. He was a displaced child from the rise of Adolf Hitler's antisemitism campaign. Jurgen had somewhat of a history with looking for warming signs that may threat his existence which may have led his "'spider senses [to] tingling'" (pg. 33). Warmburnn's report appears throughout other interviews as the lead warning sign for everyone else to take notice, but the report received little attention. There was not enough money to fund phase 2 of the protection operation. There was enough money, however, to fund "Phalanx research" and push the useless product through the FDA.
Warmbrunn is a unique character because he not only recognized a localized issue, he also distributed the information to many parts of the world to raise awareness. His last statement in the book is "But if it is true, then no one on Earth survived this war" (pg. 340). He was referring to the statement that no one survived the Holocaust and applying that same idea to the Zombie war. Basically, all the emotional and physical damage that a Zombie war would create could forever damage humanity.

  1. Jurgen had already been through a mass extermination and his main thing was to try to avoid another one. It is interesting that he survived first so I like how you explained him having sort of like spider senses.
