So I'm a lot farther in my reading than this, but I need to be a little more active in posting blogs. Ill put up two more this week. Here we go!
I want to know how you all feel about Tally having to be the person responsible for Shay's decision. The special circumstances people did not make Shay go find her friends when they ran off so I feel that it sucks that they are making Tally go find them. They are using Tally's desires as leverage and making her find the smokes location. I feel like they should not put her through all of this. How was she going to make Shay stay? Shay did not want to be a pretty so she left. I know a few of you may be thinking that the specials had no leverage on Shay because she did not want to be a part of the normal society, but i think the specials could have threatened Shay with turning her pretty early if she did not help find her friends. The motivation for including Tally in their plans are flawed.
I agree that it sucks that they are basically holding Tally's desires and basically her life plans just out of reach, so that they can accomplish their goal, which is not allowing anyone to escape the norm or have the freedom to do what they want. They are ruthless beings that I think are pretty much pulling all the strings of this society behind the scenes. I think they are in control of everything and everyone, without the people knowing, except for these few that have escaped and found a home in Smokes. It bothers them that they do not control or have power over these "rebel" teenagers.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that it is unfair that Shay gets to live the life she dreamed and Tally is deprived of her dream. She is in a compromising position that she is clearly uncomfortable with. I think it all comes down to the fact that the Specials thought Tally had convinced Shay to stay and become Pretty so they wouldn't have been able to use Shay for the location. But when she ended up missing they had to do something and the only something they could do was use Tally. They also could not have used turning Shay pretty as leverage because regardless of what happened they would turn her pretty because leaving her ugly would go against their whole operation and what they stand for.
